The 12th edition of the U.S. News Best Nursing Homes combines comprehensive information about care, COVID-19 vaccination requirements for residents and staff, flu and pneumonia vaccination rates and infection control violations listed on the resident safety summary. Individuals can conduct customized research for a highly rated nursing home by location, size and Medicaid and Medicare coverage.
For the 2021-2022 report, U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 facilities throughout the country and rated most of them in two different areas: short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. To be recognized as one of the Best Nursing Homes, a facility must have been “high performing” in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both. Prior to staff COVID-19 vaccination rates and other restrictions, 3,401 (22%) out of the 15,298 met those criteria.
