Leaders on the Rise: Kandis Fieber
North Shore Health is pleased to partner with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) Health Care Administration (HCAD) program. HCAD offers seniors the opportunity to participate in a full-time, 12-month administrative residency to provide further insight into the field and connect what they learned in the classroom to what’s happening in the real world. Our blog series, “Leaders on the Rise,” will give you the opportunity to meet HCAD seniors whose residency is at a North Shore center and how the experience will help shape their future career.
Kandis began working as an Administrator-in-Training at Hammond Health Services in June 2024. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Business Adminstration in Health Care Administration from UWEC in May 2025.

Why did you decide to study health care administration? I didn’t plan on studying health care administration when I started college. I wanted to become a nurse. As my time went on through college, I had a change of heart with the career path I wanted to take. I still wanted to make a change and help others in the healthcare field but didn’t know where to look. I was first introduced to health care administration in my sophomore year. I got to learn why ensuring our older adults having the proper care they deserve is so important. I wanted to make that change within the healthcare field knowing that my residents would feel safe, loved, cared for, and could come to my team when they needed to. I find it rewarding to know that a smile can go a long way and taking the time to sit down with a resident can make their day even when it is in passing.
How has the experience been at your center? My experience has been amazing! If I have a question or don’t understand how a system works, [Executive Director] Laurie does a good job of helping me understand it and so do the other staff members. They are always so helpful and try to do their best to help me grow into the administrator role.
What have you enjoyed the most? The thing that I have enjoyed the most while doing my residency at Hammond Health Services are the residents and getting to know every one of them. The staff have been amazing at helping me learn and hunderstand different operations around the building. Hammond Health Services has been a pleasure to be able to learn and grow from before being an administrator myself.
How do you think this experience will help you complete your goals after graduation? My experience at Hammond Health Services will help me after graduation and continue on with my goals across my career. Having my residency at Hammond has opened my eyes more to the healthcare world and I couldn’t be more excited. I can’t wait to use the knowledge that I have gained from my time at Hammond Health Services and show it through the work I do in my career.
